| I really loved the XJ. It was my daily driving recreational vehicle. When I purchased the 04 Grand Cherokee, the XJ had to go due to lack of space and to help fund the new Overland. When I first purchased the XJ, I wanted something that was rugged, tough, cheap and belonged to the MoPar family. The XJ Jeep was the answer. I have always loved the square box army style shape of the classic XJ Cherokees. A basic design and the worlds first SUV.
The first modification the Jeep received was a 2" Old Man Emu lift kit which included 31x10.5" Maxxis A/T tyres & Cragar Soft 8 black wheels with a 4-1/2" BS. A Westin front grille guard was installed, rear taillight guards, black headlight covers & tinted windows. All the badges and emblems were blacked out and the 4x4 decals were removed. A Uniden CB radio, Uniden Bearcat scanner and a Valentine 1 radar were installed. All the mechanical components were stock and regularly serviced and it ran as good as new.
The long lasting I6 4.0L engine is a testament to the Jeep's reliability. Those engines are well known for going up to and over 500,000kms with regular service and oil changes. There is only one word to describe the Jeep, tough. The XJ Jeeps do get little rattles and minor things like switches that fizz out during their life, but once you've sorted out these little bugs and quirks, they will last and last. I sold the Jeep to a good guy from Auckland who fell in love with it's stealth army style appearance. I felt good knowing it went to a nice home, Cheers Darren!
