2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
| While the XJ was an awesome machine it was missing something I love, a trusty V8 for it's performance, longevity and of course, the V8 rumble. So, I started doing some homework and eventually tracked down and purchased a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland which is a WJ model. I purchased the Jeep from Achibald Motors in Christchurch who, while I'm at it, were fantastic. Cory was a great help and not the typical kiss-arse type salesman. I wanted this next purchase to last me for good (run it into the ground) and this Jeep had everything I wanted and then some.
It was modern (2004) and being an Overland model (which is what I was after) it came with the high output (HO) 200kw (265hp) 4.7L V8 engine. This was an extra 35hp over the stock 4.7L, commonly found in the Limited editions. Plus, it had low kms (39,000) at the time of purchase. The Jeep was put on a train, shipped to Wellington Port and delivered to my door within 3 days of purchase. Although I like the stock look of the Grand Cherokees, like the XJ, I wanted to make it my own, stealth. So, the day I got it, the rock rails and mudflaps were removed. In the following days all emblems were removed using a heat gun and the grille, lower fascia and chrome body side mouldings were blacked out. Very stealthy!
