2006 Dodge Ram SRT/10 - Night Runner Edition

I've always liked Dodge Rams. They're BIG, bad and very American. I set out on importing one direct from the States. Not only do you get to choose what you really want but you also save some serious cash. The SRT/10 power plants consisted of an 8.3L 505ci Viper V10 engine pushing 505hp (370kws) @ 5,600rpm and 525lb·ft (712 N·m) of torque at 4,200 rpm, Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmissions (single cab only) and 48RE four-speed automatic transmissions (quad cab only). They were available from 2004 to 2006. Dodge made several special edition Rams. These included VCA, Yellow Fever, Commemorative and Night Runner editions.

The Night Runner edition was publicised as "400 built" but this is incorrect. They never got around to completing them. Chrysler's records show only 79 being built. My plaque reads "384/400". With my truck's options, it is narrowed down to 1 of 28 ever produced. If I was going to import a Ram, why not get a limited edition model to make it that much more rare? But it really doesn't bother me how many were made, I buy my cars for what they are, not how many were made. But, at the end of the day, it is nice to know there aren't too many around. Night Runners came painted in Brilliant Black exterior paint, Dark Nickel Pearl finish 22-inch wheels, black chrome grille inserts, black center headlights, unique Night Runner Badges, black center stack, center console bezel overlay and a serialized Night Runner dash. The Night Runner is a stealth version of the Dodge Ram SRT/10 model, definitely my style being all stealth and blacked out.

In February 2004, the Dodge Ram SRT/10 set both the Guinness World Record and Sports Car Club of America's record for the world's fastest production truck with an average speed of 154.587mph (248.784km/hr). However, this record was broken by the Australian HSV (Holden) 2006/2007 LS2 6.0 litre V8 Maloo R8 Ute setting the new speed at 271.44 km/h (168.7mph) which has raised many eyebrows as it's "hardly" a truck. The Holden also did it's run on a straight stretch of road whereas the SRT/10 made it's run on a banked oval. Many believe (even some Holden fans) that things would have been different if the SRT/10 had been let loose on the Salt Flats! The Ram's a 2,300kg machine whereas the Holden is a lightweight "Ute". Personally? It really doesn't bother me. It's one of, and was, the fastest at one stage. If people want to get "technical" it's still faster from 0-100kph by a good half a second (+). Anyhow, I didn't get this or any of my cars to boast. It's just a bloody grunty American performance truck that I enjoy and of which I am very proud.

For it's size, it still pushes 0-100kph sprints in 5 seconds flat and in my opinion looks twice as good as any Holden, plus there isn't one around every corner! I purchased my SRT/10 on the 12th of September 2007 with 5,879miles (9,461kms) on the clock. It's my daily/weekly runabout and parts hauler. It's a comfy 2 person rocket and a blast to drive! Mods include a 3" Billy Boat (B&B) exhaust system which includes: long tube headers, catless mid-pipes and cat back exhaust system. I also purchased the following parts: Justin from JMB's CAI and oil catch can, JMB clutch & hydraulic master cylinder upgrade, JMB stage-3 traction kit, X-Metal Gen-X short shifter, smaller black radio aerial, blacked out rear 3rd brake light, Pioneer in-dash foldout 7" DVD player with reverse camera, 35% side and 5% rear tints, hardwired Beltronics XR950 radar detector, OEM KPH Speedometer cluster, window monsoons and custom floor mats. The exterior will remain stock as will the bulk of the interior. It's an awesome factory appearing truck that needs nothing in my opinion and I love it!
