Assembly Begins

With the Challenger safely back at the restoration shop, it was all downhill from here. Sourcing hard to find parts was the only major issue. As you may have noticed in the body & paint section, I decided to convert the car from the original column shift bucket seat configuration, to a console shift, "Slap-Stik" vehicle. Since a previous owner replaced the buckets with a bench seat, I now had to find some 1970 Challenger bucket seats. These were found with relative ease which came as quite a surprise. It took around 5 to 6 weeks to locate some decent seat cores off eBay which we re-cored and recovered using Legendary interior pieces.

I sourced a correct 1970 console and Slap-Stik set up from Tony's Parts. This saved me a lot of hassle and time trying to locate a set on eBay. It was hard to find a complete set up, otherwise I would have had to purchase all the console parts separately from 3 or 4 different sellers, not good. The main change for the interior was the most expensive one. Changing the B5 Blue interior to black was not a cheap option, but one that I considered a must. White exterior with a bright blue interior would not have worked for me. That colour combo would have been too much of a contrast, especially with all the interior being brand new and shiny. We purchased the following new black items: dash, carpet, headliner, console, sun visors, mouldings, door panels, rear panels, kick panels, the works!

I also decided to change the exterior to my liking. I didn't want body side mouldings on, so the holes were filled. The vinyl roof was also done away with, a late decision but we sorted it out in the end. Now my car is white with black interior, no stripes, no vinyl roof, no column shift, quite a change. All major interior parts were purchased from Year One, bar the door panels which were sourced from Dante's parts. The remaining interior pieces were obtained from various sites including: Cuda-Challenger forum members, eBay, Jack's Auto Parts, you name the supplier, we tried them!
