| The Interior came together very quickly, within a few months. The most awkward pieces were the reproduction door panels; the worst product of the entire restoration. The grain of the panels was "so so" but the fit was shocking. We went through 2 sets and in the end needed to use the original B5 Blue door panels. We dyed and restored these and they came out fantastic. In the future I may look at finding some original black rear door panels and restore them as I am not 100% happy with the quality of the Palco panels. For the best results, in my personal opinion, find good or excellent condition factory original panels then dye and restore them.
Apart from the tacky repro panels the interior was easily installed by the interior team. The restoration was temporarily delayed for almost 3 weeks as the carpet we received from Year One had a hole in it. It was replaced by Year One within 2 weeks which was great service. The Console, Harms Tilt-Pistol Grip shifter, seats and frames were fitted in quick succession so it was a very exciting time indeed! We decided from the start that we wanted to detail the car wherever possible. You'll see Dave (the restoration shop owner) carefully blacking out screws in the seat backs. This detailing was done throughout the car, including the panel and moulding screws, bolts and what-not behind the grille and radiator area, etc. By blacking out all visible screwheads, it really makes the interior come to life giving it a superb all black look, feel and finish,
as the silver screwheads detracted from the overall appearance. |
