Restoration Begins - Stripping The Car

The first step, stripping the car, like the Challenger, was done with ease. It basically happened overnight. Everything was stripped back to the shell. At first, Dad wasn't sure how far he wanted to go with this car just having witnessed the 3 year restoration with my Challenger. He decided that he wanted his 'Cuda to be built to Lucy's standards. Anything that needs replacing, replace and anything that is old & past it's best by date, remove. He wanted a class 1 show car built to drive. 24/7/365.

Once we were able to see the car in it's bare form, we were happy to find that it was in good solid condition. It had the usual rust spots around the guards but the frame rails, trunk pan and body itself were in a good state. Problem areas that will need work are the front right fender (passengers), the drivers floor pan area had been replaced by a previous owner but it wasn't up to scratch. This will be cut out and corrected. The engine bay was solid except the area where the hood hinges attach to the inner engine bay was in bad shape on both sides. All of these will be replaced with brand new steel which you will see later on in the restoration. I have already ordered and received, for our restoration, two new rear 1/4 panels from Year One, front valance, passenger glass window.
