| After selling my 2004 BA XR8 Falcon, I had some play money and was keen on getting another Mopar Muscle car. The only reason I sold the Falcon was it had a real, real, bad lack of response below 3,000rpm, a real lag. The performance wasn't doing anything for me at all. I was eyeing up a 1970-1974 E-Body 'Cuda, a '1968 triple black Dodge Charger R/T or a 1969 Dodge Charger General Lee replica. Basically, whichever I found first.
As luck would have it, a 'Cuda I spotted 12 months earlier popped back up on Trade-Me. I really liked the 'Cuda when I first saw it 12 months prior but I had empty pockets as Lucy was in restoration at the time. This time I could seriously look into buying it. Within 2 hours of the 'Cuda being listed, I made a phone call to the seller and got as much info as I needed. Long story short, I had the car viewed by my restorer, who flew up to Auckland, and the report was good. I bargained the owner to a good price and the 'Cuda was trucked down and up the drive within a few days.
After a few months and before starting the restoration I had a change of plans and cash circumstances (as you do) and decided to take another route. I called my Dad and asked him what he thought I should do and after getting some arseholes (grief) for buying the car in the first place, we came to an agreement that he would buy the 73 'Cuda from me at a lower price. This worked out very well, Dad got his E-Body and I moved on to another project, win-win, 2 projects! lol
Dad didn't need much convincing as this was his first Mopar and muscle car. These pages will follow the transformation of his 'Cuda to his tastes. We will be doing everything except the paint & body work and a few other items such as the glass install, dropping the engine in, no hoist or provisions and "recommended professional jobs" such as installing the headliner. It's a lot of fun working on cars with Dad and this will be our first major project together. As Dad is retired and I work my own hours we hope to get a lot done, quickly. Check back in from time to time.
